Colleagues,
2017 was a good year. We united, and together, established a chapter; had our very first Chapter Christmas Party; lastly, we achieved nonprofit status. Our nonprofit status enabled us to start collecting dues so we can start actively engaging the community. The membership dues are as follows:
2018 promises to be another good year, if not better. We started with a general meeting on January 18, 2018, held at UNM. The meeting was highlighted by a presentation by our very own Chrissa Constantine. She presented on Open Source Intelligence (OSINT)—centered on data collection from publicly available sources and used in an intelligence context. The event was a full-house!
We will be having a Social in February at the County Line on February 15, 2018 from 6-9 PM. Our March activity involves community outreach. We will have Train-the-Trainer classes to help promote ISC2’s Safe and Secure Online Program. We are calling for volunteers; please email info@isc2-cnmc.org to participate.
A couple of significant activities we will be having this year is an election of two group of leaders to guide the strategic direction of the Chapter: Election of Board Members in April, and election of officers in July.
We will be forming a nominating committee for the board member election, and we are calling for volunteers to staff it. They will get the nominating procedures once the committee is formed. The requirements are:
We will elect the 2018 Chapter Officers during the general membership meeting in July.
Lastly, the highlight of our 2017 community outreach was an alliance with The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Network Exploitation Security Team (http://nest.unm.edu), a student body interested in the information security systems field. Our alliance with NEST will enable us to have a mentoring opportunity to help young professionals improve their skills and marketability.
Sincerely,
Gerry Gajeton
